Moby |
Ft. Pierce to Ft. Myers On The Okeechobee Waterway After a few false starts we finally left our slip in Ft. Pierce on February 3rd and motored to Indiantown Marina where, incidentally, we had purchased Moby back in 2002. The next day we motored to Lake Okeechobee and decided to go around the lake instead of across it. It was a rough ride anyway and, among other things, Moby developed a broken lubrication line and oil was leaking all over the engine room. I was able to repair it while underway. Moby carries 3-1/2 gallons of oil in the crankcase and I'm glad I discovered the leak before too much had been pumped out. We stayed two nights in Clewiston while I made a permanent fix to the oil line and a local mechanic helped us with a voltage regulator problem that had developed on the way. We left Clewiston Sunday morning, Feb 6th and made it to Labelle without incident. We stayed at Labelle's free city dock overnight and motored on to the Centennial Harbour Marina in downtown North Ft. Myers the next day. We restocked groceries from the not so nearby Publix, visited the local West Marine, shopped at a nearby farmer's market for fresh vegetables and ate out one evening. We spent the next couple of days anchored out on the Caloosahatchee River in Ft. Myers' new anchorage across from the City Marina. A cold front was forecast to pass through on the 13th so we moved back to the Centennial Harbour Marina to get ready to leave Ft Myers the next day.
