Boca Grande Boca Grande is located on Gasparilla Island on the north side of Boca Grande Pass with boasts the deepest naturally occurring seaward channel in all of Western Florida. It's famous for it's tarpon fishing and was a shipping port for phosphate and, later, oil. The Boca Grande Light House is located at the southern most end of the island and is now a popular tourist spot. A railroad that had connected the port to Punta Gorda has been abandoned and the bed turned into a bike path running the length of the island. F. Scott Fitzgerald used Boca Grande's Gasparilla Inn for some of Jay Gatsby's adventures. The rich and famous still vacation there and the island is free of high rise condos and fast food restaurants. They let Nancy & me visit as long as we didn't touch anything.
